Jozef van Wissem – Ars Moriendi Boxset

“Heavy and set in hypnotic darkness” is how NPR describes the sound of Dutch Dutch minimalist composer and lute player Jozef van Wissem.

In 2013 Van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award for the score of Only Lovers Left Alive at the Cannes Film Festival. An incessantly touring musician, Van Wissem studied lute in New York with Patrick O’Brien. He was commissioned by London’s National Gallery to compose a sound piece to Hans Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors.

Jozef has roots in our town Groningen and because of that it is with great honor for Tartarus Records to release Ars Moriendi’. This four cassette box set contains the four vocal themed albums “When Shall This Bright Day Begin”, “Nobody Living Can Ever Make Me Turn Back”, “We Adore You, You Have No Name” and “Ex Mortis”. These four albums contain contributions by Zola Jesus, Nikolaj Komiagin, Thor, Jarboe and includes the bonus track ‘Portal of Initiation’.

All four albums are housed in four individual deluxe mini boxes with embossed print, wrapped in a cardboard banderole with enamel pin, designed by Reuben Sawyer  / Rainbath Visual. Download cards included.

Only 100 made

Release date: June 24th

Important note: To keep shipping costs reasonable, this set will be shipped as flat surface mail. This means we will send the set unassembled with the banderole separately so everything fits through your mailbox.
